Find out what your job actually pays, and what to ask for next
A national income ranking can be useful, but it does not tell you whether your job is paying fairly. This report compares your salary with published ONS pay data for your occupation, shows a practical next target, and estimates what a rise could mean after tax.
A small rise can quickly outweigh the cost: a 3% rise on £40,000 is £1,200 more gross each year. Your personalised report costs £7.99 once.

First, the easy question
See roughly where your income sits among UK taxpayers. It is useful context, but it does not show whether you are paid fairly for your particular job.
| Rank | What it means | Gross income |
|---|---|---|
| Top 1% | 99th An unusually high income | £207,000 |
| Top 2% | 98th Upper-income benchmark | £150,000 |
| Top 3% | 97th High-income benchmark | £120,000 |
| Top 5% | 95th Well above most taxpayers | £93,700 |
| Top 10% | 90th A strong upper-income marker | £67,400 |
| Top 20% | 80th Into the top fifth of UK incomes | £50,000 |
| Top 25% | 75th Above about three quarters | £45,000 |
| Midpoint | 50th Halfway up the taxpayer range | £29,700 |

A national income rank does not tell you what your job should pay
This ladder compares you with UK taxpayers across different jobs and working patterns. It gives you context, but it is not job-specific pay evidence.
For a pay review, the more useful question is: am I paid fairly for the job I do?
- Same incomeA nurse and a solicitor could both earn £45,000 and sit on the same national rung.
- Different meaningThat salary can sit in a very different place within each occupation. One person may be near the top of their published range while the other may be below the middle.
That is why the report also uses ONS occupation data. It compares your pay with the published range for your job, region, age group and working pattern, then turns that comparison into a practical target.
HMRC and ONS answer different questions: HMRC shows national income rank, while ONS shows published employee pay by occupation.

Published data, clearly explained
PayPrecise uses published ONS data and UK tax rules to create a personalised estimate. Your report shows the sources and assumptions behind the figures.
Salary evidence
The current report uses ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) 2025 provisional data.
- Occupation comparisons use SOC 2020 four-digit codes and the published pay points from ASHE Table 14.
- The comparison uses the measure that matches your working pattern: full-time annual pay, full-time hourly pay or part-time hourly pay.
- Age and regional context uses the available ASHE data, with any fallback clearly labelled.
Estimates and limits
Income Tax, National Insurance, pension and student loan figures are estimates based on the UK 2026/27 rules, so your payslip may differ slightly.
- Results depend on the information you enter.
- Suppressed or missing ONS evidence stays missing rather than being invented.
- It does not include household income ranking or your employer’s internal pay bands.
- For information only; it is not financial, tax, legal, mortgage or employment advice.
Common questions
Will it work for my job?
The report covers most UK jobs with published ONS data. You can search for your job title before paying. When detailed data is unavailable, the report clearly explains what alternative it uses.
How is this different from Glassdoor or a salary average?
Salary sites usually show a broad average, often based on figures submitted by users. This report uses published ONS data for your occupation and adds relevant region, age and working-pattern context. It then turns the comparison into a practical target and estimated monthly take-home.
What if the report is not useful?

Where does the salary data come from?
The Office for National Statistics Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings, including its 2025 provisional occupation and regional data. Your report lists the sources and assumptions used.
What do I actually receive?
A personalised online report, a downloadable PDF and a secure email link to reopen it. It covers your occupation benchmark, take-home estimates, True Wage, pay-rise scenarios and a personalised PayPrecise Salary Case Framework.
Can I use it in a real pay negotiation?
Yes. The PayPrecise Salary Case Framework is not a set of generic scripts. It adapts the approach to your salary level, benchmark position and goal—from building progression evidence at earlier-career pay levels to negotiating responsibility, impact and total reward at senior levels. You get a credible opening figure, the evidence to prepare, responses to likely pushback and worthwhile fallback options if salary cannot move.
What happens to my data?
Your details are used to generate your report and are not sold or shared. Checkout runs through Stripe, so PayPrecise never receives or stores your full card details. You do not need to create an account.
Is it a one-off payment, and does it guarantee a rise?
It is one payment of £7.99 with no subscription. It cannot guarantee a pay rise or job offer, but it gives you evidence and a practical number to take into the conversation.
